The primary purpose of this site is to trace the wherabouts of my Grandmother, Mary Atkinson Young (nee: Turner b. 1903 in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland) who disappeared sometime in either late 1927 or in early 1928 from Collingwood, Ontario Canada. (A photo of her taken in about 1922 is to the top right). Her parents were John A. Turner(b. Nov 21, 1860 in England) and Isabella Constable Crawford(b. Apr 13, 1861 in Scotland).
She was married to George Henry Young(b. Sep 27, 1899 in Bethnal Green, London England) in Collingwood, Ontario Canada on March 15, 1922. They had three children, all born in Collingwood, Ontario between 1924 and 1927.
Bicentennial of the War Of 1812
With the bicenntenial of the War of 1812 approaching, I have spent some time digging into the past to discover any of my ancestors that were involved, as my family ancestors on my mother's side (Schurman) were British United Empire Loyalists.
What I discovered is that I am a decendant of 'Laura Secord, through her husband James Secord, and she is probably one of the most famous females in Canadian history for her daring and heroic feats on June 22, 1813 in warning Lt. James Fitzgibbon of an impending attack by the Americans. With this information, the small Loyalist force and Mohawk warriors were able to capture almost all of the invading American soldiers at the battle of Beaver Dams.
