I just created a website here but....I will tell you what I have learned. I entered family members that are living. When I logged out and came back to review my site it shows them as <private>family name.
I also made my site where it is both private and public so that may have something to do with it.
Don't know if this helped or not.
Hiya, Just wondering if anyone else is having problems with the free family tree software? Mine keeps crashing. Also how do I hide the living in this software? Is anyone monitoring this site for messages and does admin followup on feedback and tech problems?
I've been using it for less than an week. It has crashed on me repeatedly. I reinstalled the software, it crashed again in less than 10 minutes. Free software, huh? I am going to uninstall & reinstall it one more time. If that doesn't work, its going away.
What good is a piece of software, especially one using a database, if it isn't stable enough to run more than 15 minutes?
Anyone else having similar issues.
At this point I would not recommend this software. If you are using it make sure you backup your data OFTEN. Warning, crashing database software can corrupt your data, use Save As and save it under different names periodically. You have been warned.
The software is great BUT it crashes a lot indeed. This happend since the new version with smart matching was introduced (great feature btw). Seems to happen when you switch between individuals quickly
Hiya, Hoping someone will read this. I just need to know how to hide the living with the free family tree software that comes with this site?? I don't want to be publishing all my living relatives dates and details on the internet. Most of the other online sites allow a "hide" option. Anyone know how to do it with this one?
It's so easy to edit online, I did it from day one. Yes I uploaded a gedcom from my home program, or you can add them as you go.
If you are using the "classic look"3D tree, on the lefthand side of your page will be 2 tabs "LIST" or "PERSON". Click on person, it has a "edit details" tab there under the photo. You put in the dates of birth, death, marriage. Then when you are finished with that one, there will be detail under the photo of those you just put in. To put in places, (would've been handy to do this at same time) you click a box next to the one you want to edit and "edit" comes up, click that and a box will open up to put in places.
Easier to add parents as you already have the boxes above that person that says "Add Father or Mother" or "Add sibling"
I'm thinking maybe your problems are that your signing on as a guest not a webmaster, you may have to go back to your emails from Heritage to have a look at your passwords.
Hope this helps everyone, only takes 2 minutes to show you, harder to write it down.
Anyone with a family site, regardless of the plan he/she is on (paid or free) can have a tree which is editable online.
In order to do this, you should use the Import Gedcom feature on the Family Tree page of your website. Here you can upload a gedcom and it will create a family tree that you can edit and add to directly from your site.
